Many of us are helping each other to get through this coronavirus outbreak, however we have staff members that have gone the extra mile to help more than just their friends and families…..
Emma from Angels at Play Nursery in Ware and her friend Allie have been collecting donations for their local hospitals, care homes and food banks. They have been busy making food, care and gift bags.
Emma and Allie have been out delivering their much need donations to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Hertford County Hospital, The Chadwick Care Home and their local food bank.
Emma and Allie are keen to help as many people as they can during the pandemic and will be continuing to work hard on their project.
Angels at Play Area Manager, Louise and her family have been very busy knitting coloured hats for babies in the special care units at The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
Louise’s daughter Ella set herself the challenge of learning how to knit a bobble hat after watching a clip on YouTube. Having mastered her new skill Ella quickly decided to rope in the support of her mum Louise. Before long they were making more hats and they decided to donate the surplus to their local baby unit. It became a whole family affair when Louise’s other daughter Ruby decided to get involved by making the pom pom’s for the top of the hats.
Louise and her family have made in excess of 20 hats! After Ella contacted her mum’s friend a key worker at The Royal Free Hospital to show her the hats they asked the family to begin making bright orange hats for the high risk babies. Although this presented another challenge for the Walsh family it was one they readily grasped! Louise and her daughters are planning on continuing to knit their hats and we look forward to hearing about the next new skills they learn!
Johanna from Playtime Nursery Shepperton has been very busy in her spare time sewing much-needed scrubs for the North West Surrey Hospitals, clinics and care homes. Johanna is a member of ‘For the love of scrubs’ and is working with a team of others who are supplying her with the fabric so she can sew together the new garments.
Gilly from our Haddenham Day Nursery has been making laundry bags for the NHS keyworkers. These laundry bags allow the nurses and doctors to change out of their uniform at work once they complete their shifts and place their used uniform into the laundry bag. This uniform can then be washed without anyone having to touch it and so helping to minimise any cross-contamination.
Gilly has made 25 bags which have been distributed to Northamptonshire, Kent and other local hospitals near to her home.
In addition to making laundry bags Gilly has started making facemasks for her friends in the NHS and their colleagues. Gilly says ‘this is also good therapy for her as it is helping to keep her busy whilst she is not working in lock down’.
Kelly, our Nursery Manager at Nature’s Nursery & Forest School in Ascot is volunteering for the Watford- COVID 19 Support Group. Kelly has been helping to deliver food parcels to vulnerable people in and around the Watford area who are either self-isolating or have recently been discharged from hospital. As well as managing the nursery full time during the day Kelly has been collecting food donations from people and then delivering the food parcels to those in need in the evenings or at weekends.
