At Woodlands Day Nursery, we create a warm, homely environment where you’re the youngest children can play, explore, rest and sleep.
At this age, interactions and communication are really important to support your child’s development. Our staff devote uninterrupted time to play with, talk to and sing to your child to ensure they feel content and to encourage their language development.
Creative play and sensory play in a stimulating environment are also important and contribute to your baby’s early learning experiences. Babies grow and develop rapidly during their first year, and as they become more mobile, physical play is also encouraged.
When your child becomes more mobilethe messy play area comes into its own where your child can get involved in arts and crafts and experimenting with and exploring sand, water, play dough and other materials which support so much of children’s learning.
Imaginative play, including dressing up and playing pretend games with dolls and teddies, is encouraged. There are plenty of ‘sit and ride’ toys and trolleys and prams to push around that are great to help your child develop their physical skills. The Community Playthings play gym is a firm favourite with many of the children too. There are also lots of puzzles, shape sorters and games for them to enjoy, along with developing their fine motor skills.
The Role of the Key Person
Babies need close, loving relationships with adults so that they feel safe and secure. Your baby will be assigned a Key Person whose responsibility is to take special care of your baby and ensure they feel comfortable and secure away from home. They will ensure that your baby’s daily routines are consistent with your timings and home routine and that nappy changing, feeding and settling to sleep are opportunities for one-to-one time.
Our nappy changing and toileting space is located just off of the room for easy access for our team to support the health and wellbeing of your child. Children are fed either individually or in small sociable groups using our lovely community playthings furniture to support children to have as close to a family time meal as possible. Bottle-fed babies are cared for individually, usually fed by their Key Person in our comfortable adult chair.
Our teams guide the children’s developing relationships with other children, starting to help them to look after themselves and others too. Supporting them to wipe their own hands after food times is just one of the many ways we support children on the journey of independence.
