Our indoor environments are made up of our age-specific rooms, each of which is decorated in an inviting neutral colour scheme. We know that this is best for Early Years children as it engenders calm and relaxation – the ideal starting point for learning. We have furnished each room with wooden items that are specifically tailored to the needs of the age-range within each room.
The Baby and Toddler Room at our nursery in Wendover has lots of floor space available for playing with portable resources and sensory items and we have our Dream Coracles in the room which are beds for our younger children to sleep in. As with all our equipment and resources, these Dream Coracles have been very carefully selected as they provide an increased feeling of security for the children as well as improving independence when resting. Higher quality sleep gives the children more energy and brainpower to engage with our Practitioners and resources when they are awake.
We have a huge array of resources available to our Practitioners and children, which facilitate a nearly endless range of activity options. We seek to give each child as many different experiences as possible and we balance everything we do to meet the ideal combination of learning and development through play and fun. We love that every child is a completely unique individual so we don’t force children into regimented schedules and activities they don’t enjoy – we support and encourage them on their own path, whilst maintaining routines and providing guidance and support.
Our outdoor environment is just as important to us as our indoor environments, not least because we know that our children give it that same value. We have created an outdoor space for them to truly be children in – with lots of room for free play, running, games and expression through and exploration of movement. We have also added lots of features, facilities, resources and equipment to our garden area – including a large climbing frame, a Mud Kitchen, an insect hotel, big water play facilities, dens and cosy areas, a Sensory Garden and a Growing Patch. These all add up to create an amazing environment outside where children build a connection to nature and the natural world as well as interacting with natural materials and substances, and have the opportunity for unlimited enrichment.
