At All About Children, we are very excited to share that a new garden area has been installed at our nursery and pre-school in Beaconsfield.
Children can experience the garden in all weathers, providing them with opportunities to engage in the natural world. Our new garden area set up will provide the children with the opportunities to see wildlife up close and also get involved with some fun gardening activities. The children will also get the chance to see what they can find inside the ‘bug hotel’, allowing them to discover new creepy crawlies that they may have never come across before.
An Environment to Enrich Physical, Mental and Emotional Growth
The new garden area is the perfect environment to help support the development of our children’s physical, mental and emotional growth.
Digging, obstacle courses, climbing, running and jumping are just a few of the many opportunities to support the childrens’ physical play.
The garden also provides the children with lots of inspiration for mark-making and creative play; activities such as leaf and bark rubbing, flower pressing, sticks, rocks and other loose part materials to come up with their own unique creations. The children enjoy mark making activities where they can create marks on a larger scale as it allows them to express themselves; this encourages the children to communicate and develop their language skills through their drawings.
The new garden space will also provide activities for sand and water play. These types of activities generate countless benefits for children in many areas of their physical, mental and emotional growth as it allows the children to explore and experiment. Before you know it, your child will become a sandcastle making expert!
Encouraging Sensory and Exploration Play
The new garden area aims to provide spaces that support sensory and exploration play. Spaces such as the herb garden, water wall and a potion-making area provide the children with fantastic opportunities to use all of their senses to learn.
We also have an outdoor library where the children can read books in a nice quiet and shaded area. This type of setting allows the children to fully engage with the stories and helps to support the development of the childrens’ literacy and communication skills.
As well as this, the children will also find a music wall in Old Town day nursery’s new garden area, allowing them to play and experiment with different sounds and rhythms. We also encourage the children to take part in maths activities including den-building and collecting and sorting natural objects; they find these activities really enjoyable and offer an engaging alternative to help develop their maths skills.
The outdoor space offers a delightful stage to motivate little imaginations through role play. We support this by providing a ‘mud kitchen’, the perfect place for the children to come up with new messy creations, and play zones such as construction areas to help your child replicate real-life situations in their own ways.
