The natural feeling we achieve throughout our Ascot nursery and pre-school extends to our indoor environments with our natural colour scheme and solid beechwood furniture. We also use natural resources for the children’s benefit – such as items found at home or in the “real world” that can be useful to include in nursery environments to give the children familiarity, and ease their transition into and out of nursery sessions.
As you would expect, our outdoor environments are magnificent. We have everything a child could ask for in our gardens – open lawns, a large “indoor” sandpit, a purpose-built extensive Mud Kitchen, dens and cosy areas, a Sensory Garden, a Growing Patch and a Garden Room for learning. That’s all before you’re introduced to our Forest School which truly puts our outdoor provision in a league of its own.
Our Forest School has a dedicated wooden classroom as its base, which embodies a ‘woodland’ feel. From here our qualified Forest School Teacher plans sessions around the individual needs of the group, encouraging children to learn about the natural world, our environment and conservation. We aim to give the children wonderful experiences while we teach about natural history and how to care for the natural world. In addition to these activities, when the children are confident and ready, we introduce them to “Outdoor Survival” – teaching fire safety, how to use tools and other skills. This gives them a tremendous sense of achievement, confidence and independence. We also teach Outdoor Cooking at the Forest School – making soup and toasting marshmallows on an open fire.
