We’ve made sure we provide the best resources and equipment for each stage of development in the relevant rooms at our nursery in Arnold. For example, our Community Playthings Nursery Gym in our Toddler Room supports children in reaching their full physical confidence – and with skills development. It features a variety of different physical “tasks”, e.g. steps and a slide that challenge the children whilst they have lots of fun playing. It also provides a fantastic landscape for positive social development as they learn to use the Nursery Gym together – taking turns, helping each other, and sharing ideas for games.
Another example of our outstanding resources and equipment is the Small World toys we have in our Pre-School room. The children use these to tell their own stories, let their imaginations loose and create scenes. Doing this also has the secondary benefit of supporting the development of children’s writing skills as they record their Small World adventures.
Our outdoor environments are equally relished by our children. We have created diverse environments which give the children many different experiences each day, week and season. We have open lawns to provide a safe and natural space for running, active games and also quiet time playing with smaller toys, reading together for outdoor storytimes etc. We are pleased that our garden features trees so the children learn about seasons as well as maintaining a connection to nature.
Our garden has large climbing equipment to challenge the children physically, help them develop confidence, determination and physical skills.
We have a Mud Kitchen to give them the opportunity to get their hands dirty and live the classic childhood joy of mud pie-making.
There is a Growing Patch where the children grow their own vegetables, herbs and flowers. They develop responsibility and care through this activity as well as learning about life cycles.
The Sensory Garden provides a quieter space where the children can stimulate each of their senses – a very valuable element of development, especially for our younger children. We have some new outdoor resources too, which are being thoroughly enjoyed. These are the Den/Climbing Cubes. These can be used by the children in a huge variety of ways – they can climb and explore them, take risks, invent games and also create dens to read and relax in.
