Pizza Pittas

Making pitta pizza’s is a great way to encourage children to prepare and make food for themselves. By having opportunities in the kitchen, it’s another way to further develop your child’s cookery skills.

Cooking covers many areas of learning and adds the extra bonus that children are more likely to eat the food they have made themselves.

When in the kitchen, children can:

  1. Develop mathematical skills by measuring, weighing and sorting
  2. Create their own scientific enquiry by making predictions on how much of an ingredient they need or how long something may take to cook
  3. Extend their literacy skills by reading recipe cards and following instructions.

How to make your pitta pizzas

  • 6 wholemeal pitta breads
  • Concentrate tomato purée
  • Grated mozzarella
  • Any toppings that your child likes. Try to bring lots of colour by using mixed pepper, sweetcorn or tomatoes
  • Chicken and Ham is also a favourite to use

Method

  • Cut your vegetables into small slices
  • Preheat the oven to 200°C, fan 180°C, gas mark 6
  • Using a knife, cut the wholemeal pitta breads in half and lay on a baking tray
  • Spread the tomato purée over the pitta bread
  • Top with the vegetables or chosen meat
  • Next spread the mozzarella cheese over the top for the top layer
  • Place in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

Enjoy!
