Obstacle Course

When we say create an obstacle course for babies, we automatically think about what possibly can a young baby do on an obstacle course?

However, we are not suggesting something that would be too challenging for young babies. We are simply thinking of a physical activity that can help develop their gross motor skills.

baby crawling

If you have a crawling baby, here are some activities you can set up at home

  • Stair climbing – add small balls to a few of the steps to encourage the child to continue to have something to collect along the way
  • Stack large cushions enabling your child to be able to climb up them. whilst this may seem like something very small to us it will feel like a mountain to a child
  • Crawl and learn activity – Simply place items around the room and encourage your children to crawl to them. For example, you could use zoo animals and once they reach the animal you could make the sound of the animal and encourage your child to copy
  • Small soft balls are good to use for encouraging your baby to lift them up and down.
