DIY Paint

Children enjoy exploring and experimenting with colour from a young age. They tend to like to mix things together like mud and water or sand and water. Children develop initial interest in how colours can change and make new colours when they are mixing them together by using mediums like paints or play dough. As well as buying paint either in readymade or powder form, it’s also a lovely activity to make your own paint.

How to Make Your Own DIY Paint

To make your own paint and to experiment with mixing colour, you can choose the following ingredients.

  • Shaving Foam
  • White Glue
  • Food Colouring
  • Empty Yogurt Pots

What you need to do:

  1. Begin by asking your child to squirt shaving foam into the empty yoghurt pot.
  2. Add a few drops of food colouring and glue to each pot and give this a good stir. You can mix colours which will help children to understand that by adding two colours, they can make another colour. Because the ingredients include glue – this will make the mixture more permanent just like paint.

These ingredients also give a fun and different texture to regular paint – just ensure that children do not eat it.
