The power of gratitude is never-ending

Gratitude can strengthen relationships, improve emotional well-being and improve self-esteem.

How can we strengthen gratitude at home with our children?

First, talk to your children about what gratitude is: “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness”. Give them examples to help them understand. E.g. “I am grateful for this sunny day”

Get some paper, coloured pencils and a container that can be decorated with paint or tissue to make it pretty.

Next, you can talk to your children about what they are thankful for then they can write this on the cards or draw a picture for the meaning of the cards.

This can be a daily or weekly activity whatever works best and it is a perfect age for Pre-School children.

It’s a lovely activity to read the cards and reflect on what you have been grateful for. This can be a time where the family gets together after dinner or just before bed. A reflection time of the day.

Think about how you might expand this activity. You could ask your child to think about children around the world, children that are less fortunate than them. Then start to think about what should we be thankful for?
