Indoor Environments
The rooms at our day nursery in Luton are furnished with the finest quality, wooden, Early Years furniture – designed to optimise development and resourced with a huge breadth and depth of equipment to give our children the widest experiences.
An example of the types of items we offer our children, and the thought that goes into choosing every piece, is our Small World and Construction areas in our Preschool Rooms. Our children use the large and small blocks as well as the ‘loose parts’ resources to create a huge array of games, scenes and structures. We’ve seen a booming factory, a bustling train station, and a grand castle to name just a few of the outcomes. There are so many developmental benefits that result from the children engaging in these activities, as well as the fun, delight and joy they get from their creations.
Children develop the ability to plan as they think through how they will translate their ideas from imagination to “real life” construction; they learn how to build things, fitting parts together, they improve their ability to adapt and their trial-and-error problem solving capabilities as they find alternative options when things don’t go as they expected; and they progress their social skills as they work together. The range of materials in these areas really support children’s learning and offer them opportunities to extend and grow their ideas.
Outdoor Environments
Our outdoor environments here at Prospect House follow the same principles as our indoor areas – maximising learning and development but always through play and enjoyment. We have a large outdoor space for the children to enjoy, and we have populated it with some brilliant features, equipment and resources. There are dens and cosy areas, a large sandpit, a Sensory Garden, a Mud Kitchen, climbing equipment, and a Water Wall (which we also use as a huge art board).
