Sand Play With Socks and Spoons

Toddlers like to explore and play with sand so why not make it more interesting and different by using a selection of different size socks and spoons.

What you will need?

  • A large bowl and sand. This can be dry sand or wet sand, however, it must be “play sand” that is appropriate for use with children.
  • Look around the house, do you have odd socks that you can use?
  • Spoons to add to the sand.

This is a fun sand play activity to do together with your toddler. First of all, you put the sand in the socks. Your toddler will enjoy filling up the socks and then squashing the sock in their hands! Next, you can ask them to pour the sand back into the bowl. To keep the sock open you can get a peg and attach it to the side of the bowl. You can also open the top of the sock for your little one or if you have Sellotape roll open the sock and place it around the Sellotape roll.

This activity is fun to do and great for those wet days when you can’t get outside.

This fun sand play activity will:

  • Help development hand/ eye co-ordinator and muscle strength.
  • Support language development.
  • Develop fine motor skills.
  • Develop sharing skills and taking turns.
