Games to Get you Active and Moving

Here are some fun ways to be active with no cost or equipment needed. The games will also involve following instructions, turn-taking and will involve lots of fun.

Simons Says

Each time “Simon” gives you an instruction you follow this, if you give an instruction without “Simon says” at the beginning you need to continue to follow the previous instruction.

  • Simon says jump up high
  • Simon says touch your knees
  • Simon says clap your hands
  • Sit down – Simon didn’t say sit down so you should still be clapping your hands.

Lots of actions can be added to this, and it’s great to let your child be Simon so they are giving the instruction.

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

This is a song you can sing together, but you get faster and faster in singing the rhyme.

Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes
And eyes and ears and mouth and nose
Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes

What’s the time Mr Wolf

  1. You or your child stand facing a wall or fence, the other person stands well back to be able to take enough steps forward.
  2. The person at the wall or fence is the Wolf, the person standing back asks the question

“What’s the time Mr. Wolf?”

  • The wolf will say 6 o’clock – for example
  • The person standing back takes six steps forward because it’s 6 o’clock and then will ask again, “what’s the time Mr Wolf?”
  • The wolf this time might say “it’s 2 o’clock or they might give another number.
  • For each number given, this is the number of steps you need to step forward.
  • You might make it to the Wolf before they “shout dinner” time which means the wolf chases the person asking the question and whoever they catch becomes the wolf next
