1) Make an Easter bunny
You’ll need:
- A sock
- Rice
- Scissors
- Thread or string
- Ribbon
- A pen
Method
- Put a small amount of rice into the toes of a sock to make a bunny tail shape, then tie securely with a piece of thread or string.
- Half fill the next section of the sock with rice and make a round shape for the bunny’s body, then tie securely with thread or string.
- Leaving a bit of spare material at the top for the ears, fill the top of the sock with rice and make a smaller round shape for the bunny’s head and again tie with thread or string.
- Cut the top part of the socks in half from the top towards the head to make bunny ears and trim if necessary.
- Use the pen to draw eyes and a nose on the bunny’s head.
- Tie a piece of ribbon under the bunny’s head and you’re good to go!
- Get your children to give their bunny a name and create adventures for their bunny to go on.
REMEMBER: You don’t have to make a bunny, the principle will be the same with any creature you make.
2) Create treasure stacking rings for babies
Babies love putting objects on and off other objects. You can use a kitchen roll holder and any suitable ring-shaped objects from around the house that fit on the holder for them to play with.
Ideally, keep the ring-shaped objects as natural as possible; items made from wood, metal and material are the best. Also, keep in mind that babies like to mouth and chew, so keep a close eye on them.
Babies will enjoy exploring textures, exploring how items move, the sounds that they make and, most importantly, this will give them new learning opportunities.
3) Make a yarn Easter egg
This Easter-themed activity requires balloons, wool and flour.
- Blow the balloons into an egg shape.
- Make some glue by mixing together flour and water (or use watered down PVA glue if you have it!)
- Soak the wool in the glue mixture.
- Wrap the wool around the balloon (this is the stickiest part of this activity) and make sure that the wool fully covers the balloon.
- Leave it to dry for a few hours until the wool is set hard and gently burst the balloon so you’re left with a wool eggshell.
4) Create an Easter-themed transient picture
Why not make an Easter-themed transient art picture using natural objects that you can find around the house, the garden and the park?
Transient art involves making non-permanent, creative art – something that’s there just for a short time. To do this, find natural objects that you can lay out on the ground in an Easter-themed shape. You can make the art permanent by taking photographs of your children’s creations, but the material can be used time and time again.
There are so many learning opportunities in this activity alone – finding the materials, creating a theme, planning a pattern, working together, trying and failing, trying and succeeding, adapting resources and talking about shape, colour, texture and feel.
