Water Play Can Be Fun!

Exploring in water is a fun experience for children, which also provides learning opportunities and enjoyment! Bath time, splashing in a swimming pool, allowing your little one to wash their own hands in a bowl of water and any other opportunity to play with water is a valued experience for them.

Water is an open-ended activity, allowing and giving you countless opportunities in a safe way supervised to enjoy water play. Water allows you to explore with senses through touch, smell, listening, tasting, and looking.

You can use everyday objects in your house for your child to play with like empty yoghurt pots, butter tubs and milk cartons. These are great for filling and emptying contributing to their hand-eye coordination. Adding bubbles and colours is another great way to create learning and an opportunity for them to experience science.

Communication during the activity talking to your child contributes to learning. Asking them open ended questions like, is the water cold? Is your bucket full or empty? enriches language and allows them to explore and experiment.
